Retailer's Corner UK: Long Live Liberty and the Scarf

Retailer trends • September 14, 2009

According to the fashion experts at Liberty, the must-have accessory for Autumn is most certainly the scarf.

A quiet uprising has taken place on the fashion scene over the past several years seeing the humble neck tie make appearances on the runways of fashion's top houses from Balenciaga to McQueen. We've increasingly seen them wrapped, twisted, and knotted around the bodies of our favourite fashionistas.

It was only going to be a matter of time before we were all reminded of the versatility and universal appeal of this simple garment. From wrapping a scarf around one’s head a la Audrey Hepburn and cinching in the waist with a curve-defining burst of colour, to draping a washed cotton square rockabilly style around the neck, this simple accessory has the power to transform the plainest of outfits.

If ever an investment was to be made, forget the it-bag, for AW09 its all about the scarf.

Retailer's Corner UK: Working Out in Style with Sweaty Betty

Retailer trends • September 04, 2009

Who said getting sweaty is the opposite of looking stylish? Certainly not Betty...Sweaty Betty that is. The UK retailer's mission is to help women find empowerment through fitness; and what better way to do this than ensure she looks her best while working out. How to begin? The first step is to evaluate your workout routine and decide the blood-pumping activity of choice. From there, you should invest in a few key pieces. For instance, for outdoor activities this Autumn, such as running, you'll need a comfortable jacket that wicks the sweat away from your skin; a long-sleeved top that similarly keeps your temperature regulated; and trousers or legging that cover everything up while making you comfortable (no one likes to stop running to pull up their leggings). If you are more into zen activities such as yoga, you'll want to look for soft, stretchy coordinates that allow you to move in comfort. And don't forget a well-fitting sports bra and other key accessories, no matter what your sport. Taking the time to select the right attire will ensure your performance and style keep you top of your game!

Retailer's Corner UK: My-Wardrobe and Glam Rock

Retailer trends • July 27, 2009

One of this season’s hottest trends, ‘Glam Rock,’ allows you to channel your inner rock star – edgy, slick and oh-so fashion forward. For a touch of glamour invest in a tailored tuxedo jacket and team with some on-trend treggings to ooze cool style. Add chunky black heels (the higher the better). For a more casual twist, mix and match Glam Rock pieces into your daily look. For example, a studded top combined with distressed denim and an oversized black clutch, or a structured jacket with a pair of PVC leggings. Accessorise with statement jewellery, such as an embellished cuff or funky zebra necklace to finish off the look. The key is to have fun and put a little Glam Rock into your routine!
